The Subaru NA CS:GO $20,000 Invitational has come to and, with Cloud9 taking the title and the majority of the prize pool by beating SK in the grand final 2-0 (16-12 Cobblestone, 16-14 Train).
The North American online invitational cup, hosted by CEVO and sponsored by Subaru, took place this weekend. Eight teams from the region competed in a single-elimination BO3 bracket, with some interesting matchups happening right from the start.
CLG and OpTic met in the quarter-finals and it was the former team to take the 2-0 victory thanks to a +26 performance by Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland. We saw the same scoreline in another match that was tight on paper, Liquid - Immortals, with the Brazilian side winning 2-0 despite having to field their coach Rafael "zakk" Fernandes instead of Lincoln "fnx" Lau, who is rumored to be leaving the team.
n0thing and co. took the win in another online cup
SK and Cloud9 moved past their favorable first round draws comfortably and then took down Immortals and CLG in the semi-finals, respectively.
In the grand final, Cloud9 upset SK on their map pick, Cobblestone, thanks to a strong Terrorist side and 1.59 rated performance from Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert. Going into Train with a 1-0 lead, Cloud9 got a decent, seven-round Terrorist half and moved on to the CT side where they closed out the match with a 16-14 scoreline.
